SUNTRANS is a Europe-wide project bringing clean, smart solar power to urban transport. Our goal is to help cities and operators cut emissions by integrating Vehicle Integrated Photovoltaics (VIPV), high-efficiency power electronics, and AI-driven fleet management into electric buses and last-mile delivery vehicles.

We are developing new curved, colored, and semi-transparent solar modules made to withstand real operating conditions—vibration, UV exposure, and harsh weather. Paired with advanced power converters working at over 98% efficiency, these systems boost vehicle range and reduce energy costs.

Project Objectives

The SUN-TRANS project aims to redefine urban mobility by spearheading the integration of Vehicle-Integrated Photovoltaics (VIPV) and smart solar-powered charging infrastructure into electric bus fleets and last-mile delivery electric vehicles (EVs).

  • Validate the techno-economic, environmental, and social benefits of VIPV fleets in multi-climate pilot deployments.
